To enhance the reliability and adaptability of its engineering infrastructure, IXcellerate made a strategic decision to establish two business units — a Research and Development Engineering Center (R&D) and a Service Department – both operating under the supervision of the Chief Technical Officer.
These departments function in parallel, addressing different tasks while closely collaborating to achieve common operational goals.
The R&D Center brings together specialized engineers in the fields of power supply, cooling systems, low-current systems, and other key areas.
The team focuses on developing and designing data center life-support systems, analyzing advanced engineering practices, testing solutions, and adapting equipment to the specific requirements of data center customers. An important aspect of their work includes production site visits, assessing equipment quality, and monitoring supply conditions within a multi-vendor strategy framework.
IXcellerate Service Department is a specialized team of highly qualified engineers responsible for comprehensive technical maintenance and ensuring the stable operation of the data center’s electrical and mechanical equipment, as well as software. The primary goal of the department is to maintain engineering reliability through preventive measures based on precise diagnostics, analytics, and strict standards. Their scope of responsibility covers the full lifecycle of systems—from commissioning to resource extension and improving fault tolerance.
Having an in-house service department enables prompt execution of scheduled maintenance for critical equipment (such as UPS units and diesel generators), as well as rapid response to failures and incidents, minimizing downtime risks. This approach guarantees a high level of reliability and responsiveness that is often limited when relying on outsourcing or fragmented contractors.
Key scope of work:
The IXcellerate Service Department is responsible for performing technical maintenance, quality control of ongoing work, inspection of the equipment and materials, as well as prompt incident response. This includes:
- Participation in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) of equipment prior to purchase;
- Support during commissioning, coordination with contractors;
- Monitoring and maintaining system operability;
- Diagnostics, forecasting, and extending equipment service life, including developing measures to reduce the recurrence of failures;
- Documenting and standardizing processes based on accumulated experience.
The Service Department actively employs proactive inspection practices. Equipment is checked directly at IXcellerate sites using high-precision measuring instruments even before installation begins. This significantly reduces risks at the commissioning stage.
If signs of potential malfunctions are detected, the equipment is promptly stopped and repaired, preventing more serious breakdowns—similar to how it is better to fix a car tire puncture early than to wait until it requires full replacement.
Delivered maintenance:
- VRLA batteries for UPS systems undergo individual testing, including measurements of voltage and internal resistance. Components showing deviations are returned to the supplier.
- Cooling fans undergo preliminary vibration diagnostics to exclude hidden defects.
- Extended checklists for commissioning are developed, incorporating improvements based on practical operational experience.

«To ensure a high level of service, we consistently expand and exceed the basic requirements by implementing advanced control measures. This approach allows us to eliminate risks associated with temporary reductions in redundancy levels and guarantees the continuity and reliability of the services provided».
Rostom Margiev, Service Director at IXcellerate
The collaborative work of the operations team, R&D department, and service division forms an integrated technological model that ensures infrastructure resilience, the development of professional competencies, and the implementation of proven solutions.
The established system of interaction among engineering units guarantees 24/7/365 availability and provides high fault tolerance for IXcellerate data centers, enabling the company to consistently remain among the top three players in the Russian colocation market year after year.
